After leaving SMA, we crossed the Mountain range of Sierra de Agustinos until Sierra Chincua to 3,000m, there, we mounted to horse up to 600 m.s of the colony of Monarch Butterflies.  Of return, we eat Michoacan food, we visited the parish of Carmen Virgin, the spheres store and the workshop of feather art.

This unique natural phenomenon in the Planet has been threatened in the last year since of the relative population of the colonies in the 12 sites where they hibernate generally, in 5 colony of them did not report some itself and in the other 7 sites, the occupied surface diminished in a 75%.

To visit this sanctuary, to know the phenomenon and to experience this wonder of the nature, sensitize us to become aware and to act in please the small protection of this and incredible insect to be alive that weigh less than 2 grams, lives on 150 to 210 days (when the other species of butterflies live single up to 24 days).

Migrates near 4,000Km.  In 30 days, they support snowed, hailed, rains, temperatures under  0oC., natural predators like certain sparrows, the destruction of its habitat in Canada, E.E.U.U. and Mexico and in general, the impertinent behavior of the humans.  The responsible visit to this Sanctuary helps the conservation, maintenance and monitoring of the Natural Reserve of the Butterfly Monarch and impels the economy of the villagers.

Arturo Morales has visited this site in the last seven years at least 15 times each cycle.  Taking advantage of its experience agronomist, environmentalist, ex- -- collaborating environmental in San Miguel de Allende, Gto., and ex- president of Audubon Society of Mexico, throughout describes the passage, the environmental context.  For one better observation, knowledge and enjoy, he load with binoculars, and a GPS with altimeter.  It accedes to the sanctuary by the shortest and wooded route and promotes the possibility of interacting with the local population.

The Monarch left the region of the Great Lakes at the end of September.
